It has been a few weeks out of InvictaFC 6, and president Shannon Knapp is already looking to what’s the future holds for the comany. We caught up with Knapp on Thursday to talk about their previous card, and their future projects.
The PPV was successful, according to Knapp, expressing that the PPV companies were happy with the product. She thought the build-up was still strong, even though many felt some main stream MMA news hindered the buzz.
In terms of Livia Von Plettenberg missing weight, Knapp was a bit embarrassed about what happened and the company will be more diligent in terms of keeping track of fighters’ weights. She expressed that fighters need to know their bodies and make sure they are cutting healthy.
“There is no weight cut that is exactly the same, women especially,” Knapp explained. “Remember that you are weight cutting in different to how the guys do it.”
Knapp told us there was drug testing on the card, and that both champion Cyborg Justino and Marloes Coenen were tested. She stated all title match participants will be tested from now on, and the under card fighters will be tested at random. Results from the tests are expected next week.
Knapp confirmed plans for the reality show, although she won’t give many details. She did state she could start shooting the show in two weeks if necessary, and had some networks already interested. The show would be vastly different than The Ultimate Fighter and Fightermaster, and would feature different weight divisions. If they sign a TV deal for the reality show, Knapp pointed out they would keep the fight cards as a separate entity. In other words, the live events would not be a part of the deal.
When asked about Cage Warriors expanding their female divisions, Knapp stated she wasn’t surprised. She is proud that one of the goals of InvictaFC has become a reality – to expand female fighting across the planet. Although she hasn’t talked to Cage Warriors recently about the expansion, she expressed she would be interested in partnering with them in the future.
One thing we have been constantly asked is how to get a match in InvictaFC. Knapp recommended two things.
1) Make some noise!
You should first off let Knapp and matchmaker Janet Martin know who you are, and what you have done. Records and video are always recommended, but make sure rally your troops to prove that you can market yourself and be a great business partner.
2) Be Ready!
InvictaFC has always been a company willing to give a fighter an opprotunity, but you better be in shape when opportunity knocks. If you are a pro (or expressed you want to be one) and don’t have a fight, make sure you are close to weight, and have your Missouri bloodwork and paperwork done. There are times on ever card where they are looking for a replacement, and if you have the paperwork and are near weight, you could get the call, even if that is a few days before the event.
InvictaFC 7 tentatively set to take place in Kansas City, MO in October at the Ameri-Star, but this could change with a television deal. When it comes to an exact date, she is factoring in when the UFC is doing cards, and when it is financially viable to go schedule it for the fans. Herself and Martin have a good idea of who will be fighting on the card, and are expected to announce some fights in the next month when a date is set in stone. When asked about returning talent from the early InvictaFC days and new faces to the promotion, Knapp hinted that we would see both on InvictaFC 7.
Although expansion has been slow in term of fight cards, Knapp is expecting that will change in 2014, and looks forward to putting on more events to feature more talent.
