This past weekend, New Zealand’s “Princesses of Pain” fight promotion held a tournament to crown a 135 pound champion.
In the finals, it was local boxing champ Dawn Chalmers who took the championship in the eight woman tournament. The event was Chalmer’s MMA debut, having only started to train in the sport for two months. She has experience training ninjitsu at under coach Anthony Clark.
After getting a 20 second TKO in the opening round and a decision in the semi-finals, Chalmers took on BJJ specialist Charlene Watt in the finals. It was Chalmer’s use of striking, distance, and avoiding takedowns that gave her the decision to be crowned tournament champion.
In other action on the card, Miriam Tio faced Storm Damage MMA tournament finalist Kate Da Silva in a Muay Thai bout. Tio would take the unanimous decision.
The match videos should be posted next week on the Princesses of Pain facebook page.
