The Golden State Boxing Association will be recognizing those women who keep the ladies’s division going November 9th.

The “It’s a Knockout” event will be honoring eight females who have helped the women’s division survive inside and outside the ring and entering them into the GSBA Hall of Fame.

Among the honorees:

Mia St. John – former boxing world champion who has had a storied sixteen year pro career. Her battle with Christy Martin in 2002 at the Pontiac Silverdome was the most watched women’s boxing match in the history of the sport.

Sue Fox – The founder of WBAN.com, she is one of the most powerful people in women’s boxing today. Her website it the number 1 source for women’s boxing news, and has helped promote the sport for over a decade. She also established female boxing titles that require no fees to promoters.

Layla Carter – Having won six world titles in four different divisions, the 15 year vet of the sport is considered one of the most skilled pugilists in the sport. Having wins over Jelena Mrdjenovich, Elena Reed, and Jessica Rakoczy, Carter is currently the WBA light middleweight title.

Lucia Rijker – The Dutch fighter has yet to taste defeat, with 14 KOs to her credit. She is most remembered for her appearance in the film “Million Dollar Baby” with Clint Eastwood and Hillary Swank.

Gwen Adair – Professional boxing’s first female referee, she broke barriers and was the first female to referee a title match. She helped many more females to take part in officiating combat sports.

Michele Chong – The long time boxing journalist helped open the doors for other female journalists to cover the sport as a whole. She had a weekly column “The Chatter Box” for over a decade, and is now the editor and chief at MyBoxingFans.com.

Jacquie Richardson – Co-founder of the Retired Boxers Foundation, her work has helped hundreds of boxing, male and female, transfer from fighting to working in other aspects of the sport, and careers outside the ring. She also works for the Ventura County District Attorney coordinating investigations of child molestation and sexual assault.

Carol Steindler – One of the first women to run and manage a boxing gym, Steindler became the co-owner and manager of the Main Street Gym after her father Howie Steindler was brutally murdered. The gym is a world famous haunt for World Champions to train in Southern California.

The event will also pay tribute to the late World champion Ken Norton.

The ceremony will take place at the Luminarious Restaurant in Monterey Park, CA at 11:30 am on November 9. Tickets are $35 and you can call Linda Young at 818-621-2249 to purchase.
