In what was a brutal battle on both ends, Jorina Baars was back in form and was able to stand toe to toe with the “Baddest Woman on the Planet” Cyborg Justino to gain the first ever Lion Fight 145 Muay Thai title.
Baars (33-0-3) was the aggressor early, getting a kick to the face in the first 20 seconds. Cyborg tried to swarm in, but got knocked down for the first time in her career a minute later due to a head kick. Cyborg recovered and finished the round. 10-8 Baars.
Rounds 2 saw Cyborg the aggressor, but Baars used her length and technique to keep Cyborg at bay; scoring with knees and elbows. 10-9 Baars.
Rounds 3 and 4 saw Cyborg work her boxing and was able to get a few dumps on Baars to take both rounds going to the fifth and final.
Baars would drop Cyborg again, this time with a body kick, at 1:13 in the final round, but Cyborg was quick back to her feet. Cyborg nearly pushed Baars over the ropes shortly after, but Cyborg soon slowed down, getting a few more dumps before the final bell rang.
The judges saw it 49-45, 48-45, and 49-44 all for Jorina Baars, who becomes the inaugural Lion Fights champ.
In a most fight interview with MMAFighting.com both stated they would be open to a rematch.
