Welcome to the Fightergirls column on Women Talk Sports brought to you by your source for women’s mma gear and clothing Fightergirls.com. Here is the news for this week.

Monica Lavato (left) vs. Windy Tomomi (right)
In breaking news, Windy Tomomi defeats Monica Lovato via unanimous decision at Pancrase MMA Japan this weekend. Tomomi and Lovato duked it out on their feet, with Tomomi getting an armbar attempt in the first round. Tomomi would use her leg kicks to weaken Lovato, and get the win. This improves Tomomi to 15-12 and is her third straight win since her loss with #1 ranked Megumi Fujii last November.
In the only other pro match this weekend, Angelica Brotherton made her successful mixed martial arts debut, defeating Tiffany Connell via guillotine choke at 4:59 in the second round at the Art of Fighting 9 in Jacksonville, FL.
The cast of "Ultimate Women Challenge" at Cadillac Ranch Vegas
As reported last week the "Ultimate Women Challenge” show is underway in Vegas, with shooting commencing at the Throwndown training center. They just announced that the first episode will air on Sept. 25 on some NBC affiliates. Several videos and pictures of the cast have shown up and can be found in our Fightergirls forums.
Barbie Molina had left the show just before taping, and Lacey Schuckman was unable to compete due to a communication mix-up.
Top mma fighter Kelly Gavin
An update on Kelly Gavin, formerly Kelly Kobold. She was scheduled to face India Heroes Gomes this month, but gotten an injury and had to postpone. The hope is that she and Gomes will face off in October or November.
#1 ranked Yasuko Tamada (left) vs. #3 Naoko Omuro (right)
The new Unified Rankings are up and a new edition has been added. The strawweight division, which is at the 106 pound weight limit, started its top ten this week. The first #1 spot went to Yasuko Tamada, followed by Misaki Takimoto in 2nd, Naoko Omuro in 3rd, Asami Kodera in 4th, Yoko Yamada 5th, and Naho Sugiyama rounding out the top six.
Strawweight fighter Diana Rael
American fighters making the list include #7 Diana Rael, #8 Amy Davis, #9 Natasha Creger, and #10 Jennifer Berg.

With the Bellator 115 pound tournament in full swing, the ratings have dramatically shift. The top four remain the same with Megumi Fujii still in the number one slot, with Mei Yamguchi in 2nd, Yuka Tsuji in 3rd, and Bellator competitor Lisa Ward in 4th.
With her win over Jessica Pene, Zoila Frausto takes the fith sport, as Pene drops to 8th. Jessica Aguilar takes the 6th spot. #6 Aguilar and #5 Frausto will face off at Bellator 31 in Lake Charles, LA Sept. 30. The match will be televised on FSN.

The Strikeforce tournament has also shift fighters, as Miesha Tate is propelled to the fifth spot on the list. The top four stay the same with Strikeforce champion Sarah Kaufman at #1, Tara LaRosa at #2, Shayna Baszler at #3, and Roxanne Modafferi at #4.
The 125 pound and 145 pound divisions remained the same, and you can look at the complete list in the Fightergirls forums.
Carina "Beauty but the Beast" Damm (Photo courtesy Ester Lin/Stikeforce)
#2 ranked 125 pounder Carina Damm has made the move to train in the U.S. full time. Damm has been training at the American Top Team facility in Coconut Creek, FL and is close to signing on as an ATT fighter. Damm lost her first round match in the Strikeforce 135 pound tournament to #7 ranked 135 pounder Hitomi Akano. Damm is still signed with Strikeforce, and the move could prove beneficial in the long run for Damm, who has been dominating the Brazilian mma scene for the past two years.

Good luck to Fightergirls fight team member Michele Gutierrez as she faces Tammie Schneider at Fall Brawl in Fargo, ND. Fall Brawl will also feature Catia Vitoria facing a debuting Nina Ansaroff.
