Julia Budd defeats Shana Olsen Courtesy Ester Lin/Strikeforce

In breaking news, Julia Budd won an impressive tko victory over #6 ranked 145 pounder Shana Olsen at the Strikeforce Challengers event in Fresno. The stronger Budd was able to overpower Olsen, who tried to takedown Budd only to be kept on bottom. Budd’s longer arms were enough to get several punches from Olsen’s guard, causing the referee to stop the fight at 2:51 of round two. 

Budd also stated that she would like one or two more fights before even considering facing Strikeforce champion Cyborg Santos. It is expected that Budd will be returning to the Strikeforce cage in early 2011.

In other matches from this week:

Melissa Bopp defeated Ashley Nee, and Munnah Holland defeated Kim Couture both by unanimous decisions at the Ring of Combat in Atlantic City, NJ.

 

Beth Revell defeated Ericka Torres via Armbar at :33 in R3 and Ella Graves defeated Trisha Clark via Unanimous Decision at  C3 Fights: Slammin Jammin Weekend in Newkirk, OK.

 

#5 ranked Zoila Frasto and #1 ranked Megumi Fujii

The finals of the Bellator 115 pound tournament happens this Thursday as #1 ranked Megumi Fujii and #5 ranked Zoila Frausto go at it in Hollywood, FL.

Frausto was able to decision #8 ranked Jessica Pene, and #6 ranked Jessica Aguilar to reach finals, with Megumi Fujii submitting Carla Esparza and #4 ranked Lisa Ward both by arm bar to make it there. The winner of the tourmanet will be crowned 115 pound champion. However, Frausto stated to Sportsgeeks that she will be moving back up to 125 pound after this fight. Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney stated that a decision will be made on season four’s women’s tournament weight class after the finals are over.

Jessica Aguilar was supposed to also fight on this week’s Bellator card, but is now going to fight Nov. 18 at the G-Fight MMA card in Coral Gables, FL. An opponent is yet to be announced. Aguilar did mention to Fightergirls this week that she would be in attendance for the Bellator women’s finals, and that she has been given an automatic birth into next season’s Bellator tournament.

 

Bellator's#4 ranked Rosi Sexton & #5 ranked Aisling Daly

Two other Bellator fighters will be fighting Nov. 27. MMARising.com broke the news that #4 ranked 125 pounder Rosi Sexton will face #7 ranked Sally Krumdiack & #5 ranked 125 pounder Aisling Daly will face Molly Helsel at Cage Warriors Fighting Championships 39 in Ireland.

Yet another Bellator competitor, Jessica Pene, will face Amy Davis at "Battle at the Border 7" in North Dakota Nov. 19. As reported last week, #3 ranked 135 pounder Shayna Baszler will face Elaina Maxwell on the card.

A shocking end at the Tuff-n-uff MMA card in Vegas this past week. As an accidental slip caused LaTasha Marzolla to fall on her arm, separating her elbow. Her opponent Nikki Rae Lowe would win by doctor’s stoppage at twenty seconds of round 1.

In the other women’s match, Autumn Richardson defeats Jessica Martinez via decision.

 

Olympic Judo Bronze Medalist Ronda Rousey

Tuff-n-uff has announced five of the eight participants in what is probably the best 145 pound amateur tournament ever. The quarter finals begin Nov. 12 in Las Vegas at the Orlenas arena. 

Olympic bronze medalist in wrestling Randi Miller faces Shana Dugger and Olympic bronze medalist in Judo Ronda Rousey will be facing Autumn Richardson. Christy Tada is the other name announced. We will have more names announced next week.

 

Strikeforce Champ Cyborg Santos & Boxing Champ Leila Ali

In an interview with Fighthype.com, Strikeforce 145 pound champion Cyborg Santos said that she would be willing to face Leila Ali in boxing if offered. Don’t expect this mega-match to happen anytime soon. Ali is currently pregnant.
