Raging Wolf Champion Alexis Davis Retains Title

In breaking news, #10 ranked Alexis Davis is back on the winning track, gaining a much needed victory over Tonya Evinger at the Raging Wolf card in Niagara Falls, NY. Unlike the three round war from earlier this year, Davis was able to submit Evinger with a rear naked choke at 1:25 in the first round.

Davis is set to defend her title in February, to an opponent which will be announced by Raging Wolf in the next few weeks. She also stated that she intends to fight for Strikeforce in 2011.

Raging Wolf is also in the early stages of creating a 135 pound Grand Prix for 2011.

 

Ro Califano victorious at RFC in Tampa

In the only other pro match this week, Ro Califano defeats Caroline Portugal via Unanimous Decision at the RFC in Tampa.

 

Fighter Jessica Rakoczy

According to MMA Junkie, Jessica Rakoczy has been suspended for 9 months & fined $833 for testing positive for pain killers by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. 

Rakoczy, who tested positive for Oxymorphone and Oxycordone admitted to taking a half a pill of percocet for back pain the night before her mma bout with Jennifer Scott at MMA Explostion event in Las Vegas Oct. 9. Rakocyz won the match, but with the ruling, the match is now a no-contest.

This is the first time in history that the Nevada State Athletic Commission has issued a fine for a female fighter who tested positive for a banned substance. Rakoczy did apologize for not notifying the commission and can be re-licensed as soon as the suspension is over, and passes with a drug test.

 

Gina Carano

Word got around this week that Gina Carano has been cast in a small role in J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg’s movie "Super 8" which has finished primary shooting this past week.

Grappling superstar Cristina Lee Rodriguez has signed with XFC MMA. Rodriguez, a bronze medalist at the 2007 World Submission Grappling Games in Turkey, medalist at the Grapplers Quest National Championship, and several time NAGA National Champion, is a third degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and Brown Belt in BJJ under Royce Gracie.

She had earned the contract at the XFC Open Fighter Tryouts. She made her amateur mma debut last month, winning in Tennessee at Cage Brawl 3 in under three minutes with a triangle choke.

She is expected to debut at XFC 14 in 2011.

 

Kickboxer Atsuko Okada 

According to the FrankP316 blog, their maybe a women's match featuring Atsuko Okada on the big New Year's Eve K-1 Kickboxing DYNAMITE show in Tokyo, Japan airing on HDNet. We will keep you posted.

 

Olympic Silver Medalist Wrestler Sara McMann

Olympic silver medalist wrestler Sara McMann will make her long awaited professional debut, facing another pro debuter Monique Henry at the Caribbean Gladiators MMA card this week in Jamaca. The card was delayed a week due to Tropical Storm Tomas. McMann is 2-0 in the amateur ranks, and said she wants to gain some experience before considering making the jump to Strikeforce.

 

Olympian Ronda Roussey & top fighter Taylor Stratford enter Tuff-n-uff Tourny

Tuff-n-uff amateur mma will start its 145 pound tournament this week, as two quarter final bouts have been set with some of the best talent amateur mma has to offer.

Olympic bronze medalist in judo Ronda Rousey, who is coming off two amazing first round submissions in mma, will take on 3-1 Tuff-n-uff vet Autumn Richardson of Team Quest.

The top ranked amateur female and undefeated 19-year-old prospect Taylor Stratford (5-0) faces debuting Team Quest product Shauna Dugger in the other quarter final of the evening. Four other competitors will be announced in a few weeks. Three of the four fighters expected to be announced are Olympic wrestling bronze medalist  Randi Miller, NAAFS mma vet Tamika Brents, and highly touted prospect Jessamyn Duke.

In a non-tournament match, Breast cancer survivor Mia Hayes faces Brittney Griffin.
