Number 4 ranked 145 pounder Amanda Nunes solidified herself as a top contender to Cyborg Santos’s Strikeforce title by defeating #6 ranked Julia Budd in Budd’s second match with the company in 14 seconds at the Strikeforce Challengers event in Nashville last Friday.

Nunes, 5-1, made her US and television debut, and won her fifth match via knockout. Her coach stated after the match he would like to see Nunes drop to 135 pound for a few matches before considering a title match with Cyborg.

In other 145 pound division news, the Tuff-n-uff featherweight tournament continued this past Friday, with several amateur fighters making their mark on GoFightLive.tv.

Judo Olympic medalist Ronda Rousey hands Amateur fighter of the year Taylor Stratford her first loss via arm bar in 24 seconds. Startford din not tap, but the referee did stop the contest. Rousey declared that she was turning pro in February, gaining Stratford a bye into the tournament finals.

In two quarter final results, Ashlee Evans-Smith took all three rounds in a unanimous decision win over Jessamyn Duke.

 

Tori Aadms Throws a Superwoman punch on Tamikka Brents

And Tamikka Brents defeated Tori Adams via split decision in an exhibition match. Since Brents was 8 pounds overweight, Adams advances to the semi-finals.

Adams will face Evans-Smith in the semi-finals Feb. 11, and the winner will face Taylor Startford in March. Both matches will be streamed lived on GoFightLive.tv for $10 each.

Fighter Germaine de Randamie

Top 145 pound prospect Germaine de Randamie will be face Stephanie Webber at Strikeforce Jan. 29 in San Jose. Randamie is undefeated in her kickboxing career with an impressive 45-0. She is currently 1-1 in MMA, with her solo loss coming to Vanessa Porto.

The match with Webber will be at 135 pounds, but Randamie’s contract gives her the opportunity to fight at either 135 or 145 pounds. The fight will be in the preliminary bouts, and will not be televised.

Miesha Tate has started training for her title match with Strikeforce 135 pound champion Marloes Coenen. Tate won the opportunity to face Coenen this past summer by winning the 135 pound Strikeforce Grand Prix. Several sources are stating that March 5 in Columbus, OH as the date and place for the title match, as Strikeforce plans to hold the event to coincide with the Arnold Schwarzenegger Fitness Weekend.

 

Sources close to Fightergirls has verified that the annual GFight Women’s MMA Summit is moving to Las Vegas this Year, and will be held during the UFC Expo on July 1-2. Now being called the G2 Fight Summit, Tuff-n-uff MMA has teamed up with GFight to help coordinate seminars, a grappling tournament, and two mma cards for pro and amateur female fighters. More announcements are expected in the next few months.

Sengoku held its annual New Years week card with three women’s mma matches featuring ranked fighters. #2 ranked Megumi Fujii got back on the winning track by defeating Emi Fujino by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-28, 30-29) after three rounds.

#5 ranked 145 pounder Rin Nakai def. Mika "Hari" Harigai via submission (keylock) in round 1....

and #3 ranked 105 pounder Misaki Takimoto def. #10 ranked Amy Davis by Split Decision

#5 ranked 135 pounder Roxanne Modafferi and #8 ranked Hitomi Akano didn’t happen, as Modafferi got food poisoning the night before the event.

The matches will air in their entirety on HD Net on Jan. 14 and 21.

It has been announced that Roxanne Modafferi will be dropping to 125 pounds to face Cage Warriors champ Rosi “The Surgeon” Sexton at CWFC 40 on February 26, 2011.in England. Sexton, coming off a much needed win over #7 ranked Sally Krumdiack, is looking to test her skills verses talented Modafferi. It will be a non-title match.

 

145 pound Fighter Cindy Dadnois

Cindy Dandois has announced her split from M-1 Global. After a controversial loss to M-1 145 pound champion Yana Kunitskaya, Dandois felt that the company put her into a compromising position on the Russian card. Dandois hopes to make the transition to the states, but still trains with her brother’s gym Team Perfect.
