Welcome to the Fightergirls column on Women Talk Sports brought to you by your source for women’s mma gear and clothing Fightergirls.com. Here is the news for this week.

Emily Klienfelter (Top) from an MMA bout last year

In breaking news - Emily Klinefelter was knocked out in her boxing match this past weekend verses Christina “The Bullitt” Ruiz and while she was breathing, she was not responsive in any manner. She was rushed to the hospital via ambulance. Emergency surgery was done to relieve bleeding and swelling in the head, but she is responsive and talking normally. Kleinfelter will be in the ICU in Iowa City for the next few days, and the prognosis looks good.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to her for a speedy recovery.

Congratulations to Jessica Eye who just became Ring of Combat 130-Pound Women's Champion with a first-round TKO over Ashley Nee at 4:34. Eye, who is now 3-0, is expected to have a match on the Strikeforce undercard in Columbus, OH Mar. 5. Her opponent is yet to be announced.

Sarah Goodlaxson takes a knee from Jessica Phillipus

In amateur action, Jessica Philippus became the Blue Courner 105 pound champion by defeating Sarah Goodlaxson by Submission (Brabo Choke) near the 1:30 mark of round two.

You can see the post fight interviews and the fight itself on Ann Gaff's column here on Women Tak Sports.

In the only other pro match from this weekend – Jessica Doerner defeated Mariah Johnson via TKO in the first round at FCP: Bakken Blizzard Brawl in North Dakota

Zoila Frausto vs. Karain Hallinan from Feb. 13, 2009

Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney announced this week that 115 pound champion Zoila Frausto will rematch Karina Hallinan at their March 5th event in Lemore, CA. The match is expected to be contested at 125 pounds, which will make the match non-title. Hallinan lost to Frausto in Frausto’s debut pro match via a close split decision.

Gina Carano from the Xtreme Couture Blog

Gina Carano made her return to Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas this week. Carano, who has just wrapped filming of her movie “Haywire”, was training with Coach Gil Martenez this past week, as evidenced by the Xtreme Coture blog.

There were doubts that Carano would be returning to the cage at all. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker stated last week he was in talks with Carano's agent about a possible return. We have yet to hear from Carano, but we are expecting some answers as she does press junkets for “Haywire”, which debuts in April.

Raging Wolf Champ Alexis Davis (left) & Kelly Kobold-Gavin (Right)

Raging Wolf announced this week that Alexis Davis is expected to defend her 135 pound title May 7th in Niagara Falls, NY. Sources close to Fightergirls are confirming that former top 145 pound contender Kelly Kobold-Gavin (14-3) is expected to be her opponent. Gavin's last match was a decision loss to superstar Gina Carano at the EliteXC card October 2008, will be dropping in weight to face Davis. Gavin is hoping to have a warm-up match before her Raging Wolf debut.

Ashley Evans-Smith at the January Tuff-n-uff event

The Tuff-n-uff 145 pound tournament continues this week as Tori Adams takes on Ashley Evans-Smith in the semi-finals, which will be streamed live on GoFightLive.tv. Adams, an Olymnpic team alternate wrestler, was defeated in an exhibition match Jan. 7 by Tamikka Brents. Since Brents was overweight, Adams automatically reseved a bye into the semis. Evans-Smith defeated Jessamyn Duke by Unanimous Decision on the same night advancing to the match with Adams. The winner takes on Taylor Stratford in the finals of the tournament Mar. 12.

Emily Peters-Kagan vs. T.J. Cunanan from August 2011

In another women’s bout Emily Peters-Kagan takes on 135 pound champion TJ Cunanan in a rematch. Peters-Kagan defeated Cunanan in the semi-finals of the Tuff-n-uff title tournament, but had to withdraw due to injury. Cunanan took her place in the finals, winning the 135 pound title.

The matches will be streamed live on GoFightLive.tv on Friday for $10.

MMA fighter Valérie Létourneau

Montréal's Valérie Létourneau is expected to compete at Ringside #MMA 10 on April 9th in Montreal; after 2 year absence. She will face debuting Julie Malenfant. Létourneau won her last fight verses Kate Roy two years ago, and has a closed split decision loss to Alexis Davis four years ago. The match will be available on pay-per-view in Canada for only $10.
