It’s Official – Gina Carano is Back

There has been speculation these past few weeks, and the fighter herself gave us an answer “Yes (I am coming back).”

Women’s MMA icon Gina Carano was at the IZOD center to officially announce her return to the Strikeforce cage at the Heavyweight Grand Prix Satruday night.

"I think I just need to settle the score with myself really. I just need to get back in there for me," Carano stated.

The last time Carano stepped into the cage was in her defeat to Strikeforce 145 pound champion Cyborg Santos in August 2009. Since then, she has been shooting her major motion picture “Haywire”, whose release date has been pushed to late summer, accord to Carano.

Stikreforce CEO Scott Coker stated a possible June bout for Carano.  As for an opponent, don’t expect a rematch with Santos, and don’t expect a drop in weight.

This writer can think of two 145 pounders who would be great for a comeback match. One is being Julia Budd, who defeated Carano in kickboxing, and the other top European standout Cindy Dandois.

Only time will tell who she will be fighting and where this fight will happen; but Carano is still popular among fans, trending on twitter shortly after the announcement.
