Roller derby has expanded in the past year, and so has the “Sin City Roller Girls”.

After getting a permanent venue at the Riviera Casino in Las Vegas, and joining the Women's Flat Track Derby Association’s west division, they are going to be featured on “Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy” on the History Channel tonight.

We caught up with Stardust Dunes, who is a jammer for the SCRG to talk about the show, and training with the comedy icon.

The show was filmed last summer before the girls found their home in the Riviera, so they scrambled to get a location and plan a what they would do.

“We only had two weeks to plan it,” Dunes expressed. “We basically had no budget, and we didn’t know where we were going to be and who we were going to do it.”

They were ready when Larry the Cable Guy hit the set, and Dunes stated he was a natural on 4 wheels.

“He was pretty good on his rollerskates,” Dunes remembered. “He was surprisingly sturdy on his rollerskates. I thought we were going to have a problem when they actually wanted him to play derby. It’s an absolute essential to know how to rollerskate; to stay up on your skates, and he did it pretty well.”

Don’t let tonight’s show fool you. Although Larry did learn a lot about the sport, the girls were easy on him compared to what they do professionally.

“None of our girls threw major hits on him, because this is a sport that takes 3-6 months to pass the minimum skills test in order to do full contact. We let him set the pace.”

Overall, the Dunes and the other Sin City Rollergirls had fun with Larry, and hopes the show tonight will influence others to consider participating and watching roller derby.

“Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy” will air on the History Channel tonight, and will repeat throughout the week. It will also be posted the History Channel website next week.
