It has been disappointing to say the least that Strikeforce won’t be having another women’s match until Gina Carano’s return in June. With the UFC threat of dissolving the women’s division if Strikeforce merges with them in two years time; its important to have at least one women’s match a card. There is not lack of match-ups either.
Conversations have sparked up on twitter about possible women’s matches in the next few months, and here are six that, in my opinion, that need to happen.

6) Gina Carano vs. Julia Budd
There is some history here, as Budd is the only woman to defeat Carano in kickboxing. Budd is coming off a quick loss to Nunes, and Carano needs a solid warm-up match. Plus the marketing behind this is too good to pass up.

5) Shayna Baszler vs. Germaine de Randamie
This is a classic wrestler vs. striker match-up. Baszler has been resigned to Strikeforce since the fall and has been undefeated since she lost a decision to Sarah Kaufman two year ago. Randamie is the 45-0 kickboxing phenom who made her Strikeforce debut on the undercard this past January. This would be a step up in competition for Randamie, and something she definitely needs to get a strong postion in the 135 pound weight class. Baszler needs the fight to re-introduce herself as a contender.
4) Sara McMann vs. anyone
Four words – Olympic Silver Medalist wrestler. No promotion can say they have an Olympic medalist in wrestling on their roster besides Strikeforce. McMann’s story is incredible, and so is her grappling ability. McMann is 2-0 as an amateur in MMA and looks to be one of the fastest moving 135 pounders in the division.

3) Sarah Kaunfman vs. Liz Carmouche
This fight was discussed before Miesha Tate dropped out of her match with Strikeforce champ Marloes Coenen. Both are coming off losses to Coenen and both have incredible striking. They need redemption and some how to get back into the hunt.
2) Cyborg Santos vs. Amanda Nunes
Strikeforce 145 pound champ Cyborg Santos has been on the shelf too long and needs a challenger. Although Nunes knockout of Julia Budd was basically the only thing fans know about; don’t let that fool you. The Brazilian is 6-1 in her career and has ko’ed her last six opponents. Although Nunes is hesitant to take the fight, she stated she would accept it if offered. With the current Strikeforce timeline, July will be the earliest Cyborg would be back in the cage.

1) Marloes Coenen vs. Miesha Tate
Although Tate pulled out last minute due to a knee injury in her title match with Coenen, the hype around the fight has done nothing by heighten. Coenen and her management have been criticizing the injury and saying that Tate was scared to compete. Tate says the injury was legitimate, but is ready to go within the next few weeks. Due to the rotation of matches, this is not going to happen till at least July or August, but with the feud festering, expect this to be a grudge match and a slobberknocker.

The first two fights are the ones I would be most interested in but how great to have that many quality women fighters under one umbrella! Choices, this could be an exciting year. Very interested to see how de Randamie goes forward with her new career.

I like how you've matched the women up. As another alternative, I'd like to see Julia Budd vs Cyborg. Julia is a beast! She looks tough as nails.
