Purdue’s starting point guard KK Houser suffered a season-ending injury in the team’s opener against Austin Peay on Friday night. Houser will undergo surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee.
“Obviously, the injury is a disappointment for KK and the entire team," said head coach Sharon Versyp in a statement. “She had worked so hard in the offseason, elevating her leadership, her conditioning and her confidence level. But she’s a strong young lady who is in great hands with our medical staff. She will have an opportunity to view the game from a different perspective and as far as the team is concerned, we’ve been through adversity before and I know that we can grow from it.”
The recovery period for an ACL injury is four to six months after surgery.
Houser, a native of Lincoln, Neb., injured the knee while attempting a fastbreak layup in traffic. Houser scored two points, grabbed a rebound and dished out an assist in the first 3:49 of the game before the injury. The Boilermakers defeated the Lady Govs 93-53.
She was a starter in five of Purdue’s 32 games last year averaging 5.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 19.0 minutes per game.
