What a horrible tragedy:

Former UTSA women's basketball coach Rae Rippetoe-Blair was killed in a motorcycle accident Friday afternoon in Austin.

Rippetoe-Blair, who coached the Roadrunners for 13 seasons before resigning last August, was 52.

Rippetoe-Blair apparently lost control of her motorcycle on an overpass in north Austin, according to reports. Rippetoe-Blair and the motorcycle fell over the edge of the overpass. No other cars were involved in the accident, according to reports.

Rippetoe-Blair had sold her motorcycle and was on her way to deliver it to the buyer in Austin when she had the accident, her mother said by phone Saturday morning.

"She had it sold to someone who wanted it in Austin," Anita Rippetoe said. "They were going to meet at a bank and Rae was going to get paid and get rid of it. I don't know how far she was from the bank, but I don't think it was too far."

Rippetoe-Blair was going to return home with friends who drove to Austin in her car. The friends were ahead of Rippetoe-Blair when the accident occurred.

"They kept looking in the rear-view mirror to make sure they could always see her," Anita Rippetoe said. "There was a lot of traffic, her friends told me, and then they didn't see her. The friend that was driving got off on the next exit to try to see her, and then they saw what had happened."

The former coach had retired to care for her husband, who has Alzheimer's Disease.

It's stories like this that make you wonder why.
