Back in January my amazingly paternal baby daddy came up with a great suggestion that we turn all of our old race shirts into onsies. This seemed brilliant, except that I didn’t have a sewing machine, nor have I sewn anything for the last ~20 years.

Then, to add to the vision, one of my teammates suggested turning some of my old uniforms into onsies. Brilliant idea, but again I had little idea of where to start. I have to admit, though, that I have some confidence from reading Laura (formerly Ziegle) Pifer’s blog Trash to Couture because she makes transforming items look so simple.

The first sewing machine I purchased was a total disaster. It was used and by the time I unboxed it and started to try to use it, I discovered that it would cost as much to replace all the broken and missing accessories as it would have to get a new one. So, my mother took pitty on me and picked out a nice new machine as an Easter gift.

I finally got it all set up yesterday. My first attempt was a little lopsided, but I tried a different technique on the second and voilà:

I know it’s hard to judge size in this picture, but it’s the appropriate dimensions for a 0-3 month baby. Ok, everybody at the same time… awwwwwwwwwww.

I have a box of about 50 tshirts – everything from a “Keep Calm and Grow a Mustache” shirt that I accidentally put in the drier, to the NYC Half race shirt (Minion’s first Half Marathon), to some old Colorado Track and Field t-shirts. Let’s hope I don’t lose focus between now and then because the end result will be endlessly entertaining.

And, now, one more item to discuss – Baby Daddy and I will both be participating in Abby’sKick Ass 5k next week. NOT because we want to win the trip to Acapulco, but because we are really good people. Really good people who want to win stuff. Do it, it’s only $15, but you are allowed to give so much more (the opportunities are endless).
