Weekly Twitter Wrap

This week I did a little research on the women that I was featuring in my wrap. It was somewhat interesting, but not all that surprising, to see how many followers each athlete had.

ShawneyJ (Shawn Johnson) - 42,724 Followers
NLiukin (Nastia Liukin) - 17,429 Followers
NatalieCoughlin (Natalie Coughlin) - 6,679 Followers
allysonfelix (Allyson Felix) - 3,802 Followers
followlolo (Lolo Jones) - 1,444 Followers
briannaglenn (Brianna Glenn) - 681 Followers
anngaff (Ann Gaffigan) - 548 Followers
MsAkiba (Akiba McKinney) - 273 Followers
aggyrun (Lisa Galaviz) - 184 Followers

Being an Olympian seems to only get you as far as cracking 1,000 followers. A medal boosts that by a bit. What seems to really spike the number of followers is a roll on Dancing with the Stars. Who knew?

In comparison, the top male athlete on twitter (Shaq) has 2,350,864 followers. The top women on twitter, Ellen DeGeneres and Britney Spears, have 3,450,305 and 3,429,111 followers, respectfully. 

So what can we do make female athletes in America the stars of America? I mean, I get the comedian thing, but what can Britney Spears possibly have to say that is more interesting than some of the most talented and dedicated athletes in the world? We have our own comedy routines (see below). And our own intelligent observations. But we also have great bodies and a good work ethic.
