Looking for motivation
by Endurance Meg posted March 1, 2011 at 1:28pm
I am less than nine weeks away from my first big race of the 2011 season. NINE weeks. That is not very long. To be technical about it, it’s only 60 days off. Eek. All sorts of thoughts are flooding my brain, and I’d rather not go too deep into them wi...more

Frederick Half Marathon Training Plan
by Run Girl Run posted February 28, 2011 at 3:10pm
Day one of my new training cycle got off to a rough start this morning. I went to bed last night at 10 p.m. anticipating my 4:30 a.m. wake-up call, but instead of easily falling to sleep, I tossed and turned and didn't sleep a wink until 1:30 a.m.
At th...more

Renovating/revamping for the long run
by Jenny on the Run posted February 26, 2011 at 1:16pm
As I was down in Florida a couple weeks ago preparing for what was then the upcoming New Orleans Half Marathon, I spent a lot of time with my new teammates. I believe we learned a lot about one another, and I know they helped me learn a lot about myself. ...more

The relationship between food and training
by Run Girl Run posted February 24, 2011 at 12:20pm
Why is it that on days I don't work out I always want to pig out on not-so-healthy food, but on days when I work out, I tend to crave healthier things?
That just seems so strange to me, but it's definitely been the trend this week as I embrace my laid ba...more

Post-Race Recovery Time
by Run Girl Run posted February 23, 2011 at 12:07am
One of the best parts about training for and completing a race is the rest time that comes afterward. The two weeks post race are some of my favorite because they are so laid back.
I don't feel like I have to do a certain number of runs per week.
I don...more

Now me: Lessons in transcending circumstances
by Byline to Finish Line posted February 21, 2011 at 2:40pm
Do your workout.
Those were the instructions from Sue, who was positioned on the treadmill to my left. It had been a while since the two of us shared a run, and what better time to benefit from her wisdom and energy then on my longest run since the Disne...more

Working Out With Short Hair
by Run Girl Run posted February 17, 2011 at 1:52pm
Nothing drives me crazier than having my hair hang in my face when I'm working out. With long hair, it's easy enough to slick it back into a ponytail to keep it out of the way.
When my hair was this long I never had a problem:
But now my hair is this...more

Mental chatter can change the conversation
by Byline to Finish Line posted February 15, 2011 at 2:38pm
The question actually made me smile.
It was an early morning in the pool and my swim workout’s main set consisted of timed 300 yard sprints but my coach left the final tally up to me — three or four.
He does this from time to time with pool and trac...more

I guess it was time to take a break
by Endurance Meg posted February 14, 2011 at 10:49am
February started with a bang. Actually, it started with rain, winds, ice, and snow. The snow wasn’t fun snow. It was the snow that has the texture of sugar, abrasive and hellacious. It’s the snow that you loathe if you’re a Nordic skier looking for ...more

Running is hard. That’s why I love it
by Byline to Finish Line posted February 10, 2011 at 2:08pm
The workouts are basic. Run. That’s it. Run. The duration is always about the same, around 40 minutes, of running on a treadmill. It’s a slow and cautions return to the sport after a six-week or so bout with plantar fasciitis. And wanting my injury to...more

With only a few days to go until my race, it's time to take a look back at my current training cycle.
Going in, I had planned to run this race just for fun, but I still set an ambitious training plan for myself.
After about two weeks of running on that...more

Finding a way through the storm
by Byline to Finish Line posted February 2, 2011 at 4:05pm
Thanks to the technological advances of social media, I was informed well ahead of time to avoid all grocery stores.

Jess Mendoza's Blog: Off-season motivation

Overcoming reluctance to train
by The Glowing Edge posted January 31, 2011 at 8:06pm
You might think that I wouldn’t have any trouble overcoming the “I don’t want to work out today” blues, as much as I train. You’d be wrong. For me it happens about once a week.
However, I’ve been doing it long enough to have developed a fe...more
