A good way to not get your comment approved
by The First Line posted March 23, 2011 at 11:06pm
These examples come from the NHL for broader reach, but they apply equally to what a commenter might say about players in the women’s game.
An opinion with which reasonable people may agree or disagree: Alex Ovechkin sometimes seems to have little rega...more

Kazmaier award and other hockey news
by The First Line posted March 21, 2011 at 10:39pm
Meghan Duggan captured a much-deserved Kazmaier award. I had an inkling that whichever finalist made it farthest into the tournament was going to win, and Duggan’s leadership was certainly a large part of Wisconsin’s success.

Relentless Badgers win National Championship
by The First Line posted March 21, 2011 at 3:15pm
Kerrin Sperry held them at bay as long as she could, and Marie-Philip Poulin put on a display of individual virtuosity, but in the end the Badger onslaught was simply too powerful. Caroline Prevost scored twice for Wisconsin, and Brooke Ammerman and Mal...more

Your Division I Hockey All-Americans
by The First Line posted March 19, 2011 at 11:02am
Interesting that this set of honors names players in a typical game formation (ie, they need two defenders) while the Kazmaier tends to focus on players from the offense.

All seeds advance as Hockey East proves its mettle
by The First Line posted March 13, 2011 at 2:28pm
Well, that was a day of hockey. The terrible planning that had games starting while the previous game was still in progress (one, two, and three p.m. starts for the East Coast quarterfinals) worked out fine, since the the first period was the only one w...more

Seniors rule in final Kazmaier cut
by The First Line posted March 10, 2011 at 9:39pm
Well, I guess that answers that question. The committee wants to give this award to a woman in her last year of college, and they are sticking with the idea that it’s important to have balance among the conferences. Agosta, Duggan, and BC’s Kelli ...more

Every day is International Women’s Day
by The First Line posted March 9, 2011 at 10:35pm
By making it a one-off event, it seems like we can care about women’s accomplishments for twenty-four hours and then forget again (see: Black History Month, etc). On the contrary! The histories of marginalized groups are not a separate entity, but p...more

It must feel awful to be the eighth best team in the country if you play in Division III. The conference tournaments really are it in terms of making the NCAA field. As expected, UWRF got one at-large bid, and Norwich picked up the other after falling...more

Duggan As Contender, And Other Kazmaier Thoughts
by The First Line posted March 4, 2011 at 3:02pm
