Little Wing, (my new training group here in Bend,) kicked off today, AT LONG LAST!

For months it’s been in the works. The initial sparks came from long, late night talks with the Lesko’s, (the brilliant investors in Oiselle I lovingly call the fairy godparents.) Talking to these guys makes you feel like you can conquer the world. We fantasized about starting a training group here in my new home of Bend, Oregon, just over the mountains from Eugene at mild elevation, bathed in 300 days of sunshine a year. In this fantasy, we would have a young crop of strong, healthy, inspiring women, backed by Oiselle, working together to reach our potential. With me as the “experienced” one, I could help guide the younger athletes in the group along until they could kick my ass, (preferably after I retired, hahaha.)

As their arrival date got closer, I spent hours and hours scouting the pieces neccessary for a successful group: A world class PT, experienced massage therapy, access to facilities, an on-site assistant coach, a general weekly training schedule we could plan within, strength and conditioning resources…I drove dirt roads looking for long run loops and tempo run sites, and mountain biked running trails (a lot of this while very very pregnant) to find the best places to work hard and stay injury free. Every piece of the puzzle I worked on got me more and more excited for them to arrive.

There is still a lot more to do, including hiring help for Jude and for some other projects I need support on. That’s going to be the hardest part of all because I know I need help so badly in order to do what I want to do, but when it comes time to actually find help or hand Jude over, my heart breaks a little. I need help, but I don’t want help, if you know what I mean. I want to be two people living simultaneously. Until I solve this final piece, I’ll be schlepping a carseat everywhere and searching for the oracle. What do you think? Au pair? Personal assistant? Nanny/intern?

In the meantime, welcome Little Wing! I’m so happy to have you here. Tomorrow I’m gonna kick your asses in the gym…prepare to be sore :) .
