I was pleasantly surprised when the "My Day My Life: Women's Soccer" Mini Series was recently brought to my attention by a follower of the blog. This series follows four professional women's soccer players as they make their way to the biggest tournament of their lives, the Women's World Cup!
The first episode in the mini series features Canada's own Karina LeBlanc. Other mini series, to be released every Thursday through July 14th, will feature Marta Vieira da Silva (Brazil, Forward), Amy Rodriguez (USA, Forward), Alex Scott (England, Defender).
What I like most about this mini series is that it is clearly aimed at two groups of consumers that are generally under serviced in the sports community: women and, more specifically, young female athletes. The website has a very positive vibe and the mini series (at least the first one with Karina LeBlanc) do a great job in portraying the athletes as positive role models for your girls. Although the series has a perhaps unavoidable retail spin (with a section of the website dedicated to "get the look" that sells clothing from Dick's Sporting Goods and Puma) it does not overtake what is clearly the focus of the site, women's football.
I will be updating Women in Sport International as the mini series progresses up until July 14th.
In the meantime, enjoy episode 1 featuring Karina LeBlanc as she discusses what it is like training for the Women's World Cup.
