The Liga Femenina now has three games under its belt. There have been some great performances so far this season, but the top of the league is pretty much what everyone thought it would be.
Sancho Lyttle was named the MVP of Game Two with a 22 point, 12 rebound, and four assist game against Joventut during a 76-69 win on the road. She adds this to her SuperCopa MVP to start the season. As for Game One, DeWanna Bonner won that honor for Rivas Ecopolis with a 21 point, seven rebound game against...Joventut.
Something tells me it's going to be a long year for Joventut, which is now calling itself Soller Bon día! Part of the problem with following European basketball comes with the name changes of various clubs. Relocation can lead to name changes, but changes in sponsorship can also force name changes. Why the former Joventut is calling itself "Good Day" is beyond me, but I expect that the reason is because one of the new sponsors for the club is a Soller tourism website.

Ros Casares 85, Vigo 59
Each team only had one day of rest - they had played on Wednesday - before turning right around and playing again two days later. Ros Casares, however, played its second straight road game whereas Vigo stayed at home. It didn't seem to cause Ros Casares any problems.
Vigo: Sliskovic 16/6 TO, Jordana 15/5 TO, Stakneviciene 14/10 reb/3 stl, Gomez 10.
Ros Casares: Brunson 16/8 reb/5 TO, Douglas 16, Fernandez 16, Lawson 15/4 ast, McWilliams 4/5 reb.
Saturday, October 16
Rivas Ecopolis 84, Zaragoza 80 (OT)
The big match-up of the day - where last year's third and fourth placed finishers met - ended in an overtime explosion that saw Rivas Ecopolis come out on top. The game ended in a 66-66 tie at the end of regulation on a pair of free throws by Allison Feaster, and the final overtime period saw an explosion of free throws. Free throws by DeWanna Bonner put Rivas Ecopolis up 83-78, but with 20 seconds left Christina Ouvina scored to close Zaragoza to 83-80. The final score of the game was a free throw by Bonner that put the game away for Rivas Ecopolis.
Dewanna Bonner would score 24 points and 11 rebounds and Courtney Paris would score the other double-double of the game with 12 points and 16 rebounds.
Rivas Ecopolis: Bonner 24/11 reb, Cruz 16/8 reb/5 TO, Aguilar 15, Paris 12/16 reb.
Zaragoza: Kresovic 22, Ouvina 13/5 reb/3 ast/3 stl, Feaster 11, Henry 10/6 reb, Brown 8.
Perfumerias 95, Olesa 58
Perfumerias won every quarter. Most teams slow down during the fourth quarter, but not Perfumerias which outscored the visitors 25-9 for a final kick in the pants before they left. Perfumerias out-rebounded Olesa 47-28 overall. There's not much of a story to tell, except for the fact that Sancho Lyttle did not play. It could be that they simply decided to rest their MVP.
Perfumerias: de Souza 19/12 reb/3 stl, Torrens 15, Snell 14, Montanana 13/8 ast, Gastaminza 10.
Olesa: Traore 10/5 reb/5 TO, Podkovalnikova 10/7 reb, Bas 8, Kerr 8.
Navarra 63, Ibiza 55
Navarra finally got their first win of the year against visiting Ibiza. It seems like a very close game - no quarter was decided by more than four points - but there's no write-up online yet. Navarra won this game from behind the arc - they shot 12-for-28 behind the arc with Ibiza shooting 0-for-11 from 3-point range.
Navarra: Palomares 14 (4-for-10 from 3-points), Cinite 13/7 reb, Liniera 11, Chones 6/8 reb.
Ibiza: Pirsic 16/5 reb, Morales 12, Thorburn 11, Smith 8/7 reb, Rasmussen 6/8 reb/4 TO.
Extrugasa 72, Cadi la Seu 62
Extrugasa got their second win of the year on the road after spending the previous year in the second division. Begoña García scored 7 points in the final 7 minutes to put Extrugasa over the top for good.
Cadi la Seu: Traore 16/4 stl, Nascimento 14/6 reb, Perez 6.
Extrugasa: Adams 15/6 reb/4 stl, García 11, Manzanares 11/6 reb/4 stl, Blanes 9/6 reb.
Hondarribia 67, Joventut 59
With both teams 0-2 going into the game, Hondarribia got the win on the road. The score was tied 54-54 with five mutes left. Natasha Lacy's play under the post appeared to be instrumental in the win, at least from what I'm reading. Joventut played four players for a total of 20 minutes who scored a grand total of zero points and shot 0-for-5.
Joventut: Vega 22/6 reb, Murphy 13/9 reb/6 TO, Ferrari 13, Comfort 8.
Hondarribia: Rad 16/6 reb, Lacy 14, Bavendam 10.
Sunday, October 17
Gran Canaria 62, Girona 52
After a strange first half where Gran Canaria led Girona 22-7 after the first but only led 28-26 at halftime, Gran Canadia took care of business on the road in the second half. Gran Canaria's Agnes Nordstron came close to having a very strange triple double with 10 points, 9 rebounds...and 9 turnovers.
Girona: Borges 18, Warburton 8, Carbo 7, Bahi 6, Kelly 1.
Gran Canaria: Michael 17/8 reb, Sanchez 14, Nordstrom 10/9 reb/9 TO, Ress 8.
