In just a few weeks, Arthur Ashe stadium will be filled with tennis greats vying for the U.S. Open trophy and competing to score style points. Tennis has influenced fashion and vice versa, and the game’s biggest stars have become known for their sartorial selections in addition to their style of play. Players’ on-court ensembles are attracting more and more attention, especially during the U.S. Open, forcing sponsors to bring their very best designs to the Big Apple.
Below is a preview of some of the looks you can expect to see at the final Grand Slam of the season, which begins on August 29th:
Maria Sharapova
Sharapova is always at the forefront of tennis fashion. She will take the court wearing Nike’s “Fall Maria Ace Dress” in gray and coral for day and navy blue for night. The dress features mesh insets at the neckline, sewn-panel construction for a flattering look and a double layered skirt. As always with Sharapova, intricate details and a feminine silhouette allow for a balance between both elegant and sporty.
Serena Williams
It’s never a dull style moment when Serena Williams takes the court. She will wear the Nike “Women’s Autumn Smash Hard Court Dress” in a bold scarlet hue for day and electric blue for night. Black piping around the neck gives the illusion of a sweetheart neckline and front pleats with black inserts offer a fashion-forward look for one of the game’s most stylish stars. The overall design is simplistic for Serena, but we expect to see the addition of bold accessories to dress up the ensemble.
Roger Fedrerer
It looks simple on the surface but Roger’s fiery red Nike “Men’s Fall RF Trophy Court Crew” for day features lots of details like dark piping around the v-neck and on the sleeves, as well as the ‘RF” logo on the left sleeve. The crew will be paired with gray shorts. For night games, Federer will return to a classic, signature polo as part of a monocramatic gray ensemble. Subtle red piping around the shirt’s collar and down the sides of the shorts enhance the look.

Rafael Nadal
Rafa will wear the Nike “Men’s Fall Rafa Ace Court Crew” in both white and yellow and bright blue and white. The simple, shallow v-neck top gets a bit of an edge from its bold, pixelated graphic design which is meant to resemble lines on a tennis court.

Li Na
Li Na’s two-piece outfit includes color similar to Serena’s day dress. On top she will wear the Nike “Autumn Smash Classic Top,” which features a square neckline and contrast white piping for a unique design. On the bottom, Na will wear the “Fall Smash Pleated Skort” in a mocha color, with similar white piping around the elastic waistband, a streamlined fit and pleats on front and back.
Victoria Azarenka
Victoria Azarenka will sport the Nike “Fall Set Point Knit Dress,” in a “blue glow” hue. An empire waist, halter neckline and flirty details characterize her on-court ensemble.
Ana Ivanovic
Ana Ivanovic is partial to wearing vibrant colors and she will once again sport a bright hue during the U.S. Open. Ivanovic’s hot pink adidas “Women’s Fall adiZero Feather Dress” features a scoop neck design, shiny fabric inserts and an open, cut-out back.

Fernando Verdasco
Verdasco too tends to favor bright colors and vivid patterns when it comes to his tennis outfits. In keeping with his signature style, he will wear the adidas “Men’s Fall adiZero Feather Crew” and the “Men’s Fall adiZero Feather Short.” Both items have a darker, maroon-colored base with pops of color in a sharp red hue. The top’s geometric, graphic design is balanced with simple, lightweight woven shorts.
Andy Murray
Red seems to be a dominant color on the men’s side and Andy Murray will join in on the action. His gear will come from the adidas Barricade Collection and will include the “Men’s Fall Barricade Crew” and the “Men’s Fall Barricade Woven Shorts.” The fire-engine colored red top has a layered v-neck, unexpected pops of bright green piping and the brand’s signature “3-stripes” on the sleeves.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
Tsongo’s gear will be similar in design to Verdasco, as it also comes from the adiZero Feather Collection. He will wear the adidas “Men’s Fall adiZero Feather Theme Polo” which offers a modern take on the traditional tennis top. A zipper placket and a colorful, geometric stripes and squares design are among the standout qualities.

Caroline Wozniacki
As the face of Stella McCartney for adidas, Wozniacki’s tennis outfits always have a bit of high-fashion flair. This year’s all-white dress features a fitted bodice and pleated skirt design.
Gisela Dulko
Dulko took to twitter to share her U.S. Open attire, posting the photo seen below. In keeping with the color-blocking trend, she will wear a Lacoste tennis dress in white, with blocks of color in navy and purple.
Novak Djokovic
Djokovic will be sporting Sergio Tacchini apparel at the U.S. Open. White and grey clothing will be worn during the day while bolder midnight blue gear will serve as his nighttime fashion. Blocks of color underneath the arms and on the backside of the shorts convey a futuristic feel.
Perhaps the most anticipated ensemble with each tournament is that of Venus Williams. Williams dresses herself, wearing creations from her very own EleVen line. She recent dished that her U.S. Open gear will be all about the little black dress. The question is…how “little?” Remember this?
