From spiked toes to pointy toes and strappy sandals to ski-high heels, this morning New York's Central Park was full of ladies (and men) sprinting in their stilettos.
Participants from all over the nation competed in LIVE! with Regis and Kelly’s 2nd annual “High Heel A-Thon,” which raised money for The Foundation for the National Institute of Health's The Heart Truth Campaign. The 150-meter race was sponsored by Zappos.com and required competitors to wear heels that were at least 3 inches high.
Ida Bernstein of Baltimore, Maryland was the winner of the race and received a Volkswagen Jetta and $10,000 prize. It was a close finish but Ida, who is actually a member of the U.S. Women’s Rugby team, managed to come out on top. Check out the video footage of the race below; proof that you can be both classy and sweaty at the same time:
In support of the "High Heel A-Thon," Kelly Ripa was joined by a variety of celebs including Kristin Chenowith, AnnaLynne McCord and Olympic figure skater, Johnny Weir, who competed in the men’s heat. And no male athlete can rock a pair of heels like Weir. His teal and black Louboutin booties get an A+ in style from A Glam Slam. As for his "running in heels" skills? Johnny thinks he'll stick to skating.
