New Mexico's Jennifer Williams Will Try To Fire The Lobos To The Top of The Table Against BYU

(All times listed are Eastern.)

New Mexico vs BYU (7:00)

The key to the future of these sides’ seasons may ultimately lie in each other’s hands. For BYU, New Mexico represents the penultimate opponent of any RPI value left on their schedule. The Cougars are well within the safe zone of the RPI right now and are eager to rack up as many bonus points as possible to try and be one of the sixteen seeded teams and likely earn regional hosting duties. For New Mexico, BYU are the last and best chance to solidify their spot above the bubble fray. A win wouldn’t lock them into the field by any means but would ease the pressure on them going forward. A loss will mean the Lobos will likely be stuck on the bubble for the rest of the season.

Oh, and if you haven’t heard, these two teams don’t like each other. Last season’s drama has been beaten into the ground by others, so no need to elaborate on my part. But with most of the protagonists returning and one of the country’s most intimidating crowds likely to be in full throat in support of the Lobos, Saturday night’s showdown in the Mountain West could be one of the most passionate and important league matches in any conference in 2010.

Princeton vs Columbia (4:00)

Before Saturday night’s top of the table clash in the Mountain West, the two Ivy League leaders will square off in a tasty appetizer before the main course. The Ivy League hasn’t produced too many bracket buster sides in the past few years, but potential tournament teams in the Northeast would be well advised to keep a wary eye on this match. The Tigers and Lions look to be the pick of the litter among the Ivies this year and the winner will take a massive step towards the league’s automatic bid. Whoever emerges from this league will have a puncher’s chance in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against some big conference team looking towards the second round and bigger fish.
