Delle Donne: I was homesick at UConn

The Chicago Sky Selects Elena Delle Donne Second Overall in 2013 WNBA Draft

Donne was the most sought after high school player in 2008. That year she was part of the McDonald's All-American Team, was the EA Sports, Gatorade National, Naismith Prep and USA Today National Player of the Year award recipient. She was awarded a scholarship to the women's basketball powerhouse, the University of Connecticut. She did not take the scholarship, citing feeling burned out from the sport. She enrolled in the University of Delaware, just 20 minutes from her home. She later realized she was not burned out but rather needed to be closer to her family, particularly her sister who has cerebal palsey and is blind and deaf. She played volleyball as a walk on during her freshman year. She joined the basketball squad during the 2009/2010 season. That season she averaged 26.7 points per game. She was the first player since 1999 to receive the CAA Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards.

Delle Donne was selected second overall to the Chicago Sky in the 2013 WNBA Draft.
