Atlanta Beat continue to bolster their squad
by All White Kit posted June 2, 2010 at 6:55pm
As Beau Dure says, the only player the Beat haven’t signed yet is Steve Ralston. I’m just assuming the Beat don’t want to take a gamble on those knees.
With this morning’s addition of Lori Chalupny, the Beat have strengthened in every par...more

So I was a bit off.
Atlanta has managed to nab Hope Solo, Eniola Aluko AND Tina Ellertson. Talk about strengthening your squad.
This still leaves Boxx, Tarpley, Asante and many others (including valuable young players) up for grabs.

Dispersing SLA players according to others’ needs
by All White Kit posted May 31, 2010 at 5:53pm
Tomorrow the Saint Louis Athletica players become free agents. The players won’t be drafted away, rather they’ll be sold to the highest bidder. I’m not saying this order of events will unfold, merely that this would be how each WPS team’s linger...more

WPS' Freedom honors the troops
by Women's Sports Blog posted May 31, 2010 at 5:21pm
The Washington Freedom wore blue camouflage jerseys to celebrate Memorial Day in their match on Sunday. Dressing the players as 'soldiers' contributes to the idea that everything, but especially sports, can be analogized to war. This actually does a d...more

The Anorak: Analzying WPS Week 7 Attendance
by All White Kit posted May 31, 2010 at 2:09pm
With an average attendance of 3,675, this weekend was the second least-attended weekend in WPS of the 2010 season. Perhaps it was the fact that it was Memorial Day weekend or that the Chicago Blackhawks are in the Stanley Cup, but the Red Stars saw a dee...more

WPS: Momentum Killer
by Women's Sports Blog posted May 30, 2010 at 4:05pm
Weeks off are not good things for teams on hot streaks. FC Gold Pride came out flat against a Red Stars squad which played like it had a weight lifted from its shoulders, and the result was a Chicago home win and the Pride's first loss in six games. T...more

Sorry for the delay/extremely abbreviated version that will follow. It just kind of feels like the day after a friend’s funeral with the whole SLA thing. Weird.

Chicago supplies some much-needed good vibes
by All White Kit posted May 30, 2010 at 3:48pm
If ever there was a match that the Chicago Red Stars were not supposed to win it was probably this one.
Observe:
Previously disjointed, psychologically frail and impotent, Chicago was second to bottom. The team had scored just three goals in six ma...more

Notables for the day - Tobin Heath turns 22
by All White Kit posted May 29, 2010 at 5:32pm
Happy birthday Tobs.
First a few official clarifications on some items in a previous post regarding Saint Louis:
1.) WPS did indeed have a bond in place for Saint Louis and it was used to make player payroll as well as for other expenses.
2.) The A...more

Athletica Folds: How Big Are The Repercussions?
by Women's Sports Blog posted May 28, 2010 at 5:42pm
It remains unclear at this point exactly what lesson to take from the announcement that St. Louis Athletica will cease operations this week, other than that WPS is working on such a razor's edge of a budget that it could only afford to take over team payr...more

Shannon Boxx; It’s Not Your Fault
by All White Kit posted May 28, 2010 at 10:05am
Nor is it yours, Aya Miyama.
So WPS lost its coolest team crest today. Jeff Cooper and St. Louis Soccer United apparently had one available lifejacket left on its sinking ship. And they chose to give it to A.C. St. Louis.
Perhaps you may think that...more
