Brunson started her career at Georgetown University. There, she was the schools all-time leading rebounder. In 2004, Brunson was picked 10th over all in the WNBA draft to the Sacramento Monarchs. She helped the Monarchs' take home the WNBA Championship victory in 2005. She played for Sacramento for six seasons until the team operations were suspended in 2009. She then moved to the Minnesota Lynx. In the off season, Brunson has played for Taranto, an Italian professional basketball team, for a team based in Russia, and for a professional club in Belgium. Off the court, Brunson established and manages the 32 Foundation. The 32 Foundation sponsors academic and athletic opportunities for youth in the metropolitan DC area.
