McWilliams started her career at Georgia State University in 1989. She then transfered to St. Edwards University where she set multiple records and won many awards including being named to the Kodak NAIA All-American team in 1993, setting the four school records (career scoring, scoring in a single season, highest scoring average, and highest field goal percentage), was named NAIA National Player of the Year in 1993, and was a member of the 1992 NAIA All-American second team. She currently plays for the WNBA team, the Minnesota Lynx.
