Following a successful high school campaign, Leilani Mitchell took her talents to the University of Idado, where she was named honorable mention All-America by the Associated Press and the WBCA in 05-06, was one of 11 finalists for the Nancy Lieberman Award, given to the nation's top point guad, led the WAC and ranked 2nd nationally in steals per game 05-06, avering 4.0 per game, ranked  1st in the WAC and 18t nationally in assists per game, averaging 5.6 per contest, and scored 17.6 points per game as a junior for Idaho, which ranked 2nd in the WAC and 50th in the nation.  She left Idaho after her junior year, leaving with the school's career record for steals (323) and the single-game record for 3-pointers (7), and transfered to Utah.  As a senior at Utah, Mitchell averaged 16.8 points per game, 7.5 assists per game, 4.1 rebounds per game, and close to 2 steals per game en route to a 2008 NCAA Tournament bid.  She was drafted by the Phoenix Mercury in the 2008 WNBA draft but currently plays for the New York Liberty.  In her sophomore campaign, Mitchell finished as the WNBA's No.1 in assists per turnover leader (2.92).  Following the 2010 season, Leilani Mitchell was named the 2010 WNBA Most Improved Player.
